Know Your Hood: East Village
Usually we talk about the communities. In this segment of Know Your Hood, we are taking a upward approach to get a look at the community of East Village in Calgary. A unique area, promoting walking and community enjoyment. So much to do right outside your doorstep. Arts and culture are as much a part of East Village as the people who live here. It’s bursting with music, public art, literature and history, You also have one of the most modern libraries recently completed in North America. If you want great venues there is Studio Bell, Home of the National Music Centre and the King Eddy, a great venue for live music. Local Artist Showcase murals, sculptures and digital art. East Village blends the old with the new. The Simmons Building since restoration houses, a Charbar, Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters and Sidewalk Citizen Bakery. Hillier Block, originally used as residential housing on upper floors in the 20th century, another original staple in Calgary has been also restored. Across the bridge is access to St. Patrick's Island and walking distance to the Calgary Zoo. It is exciting to watch this community evolve.
